Privacy policy · Version 4 · 22 August 2026

The short
version first.

In one sentence
We collect where you charged, whether it worked, and nothing else that identifies where you go.
01
What we collect
A site ID, a timestamp, and whether a session started. Your vehicle model. Charge logs you enter yourself.
02
What we never collect
Continuous location, your contacts, your photos, or anything from other apps. We do not request those permissions at all.
03
Your consent
Arrival counting is opt-in, asked the first time you open a charger, and withdrawable in two taps. Withdrawing stops collection; it does not remove grades your past reports already produced.
04
Who else sees it
Nobody, in identifiable form. Published reports are aggregated and exclude sites with fewer than twenty attempts. To settle a charge, the request passes to the operator you chose. This website is measured with cookieless analytics that cannot identify you.
05
Retention
Arrival events for 24 months, then deleted automatically. Charge logs stay with your vehicle until you delete them or transfer it.
06
Your rights
Access, correction, erasure and grievance under the DPDP Act 2023. Export is a JSON file by email within 24 hours.
Grievance officer

15-day response, as the DPDP Act requires
What changed in v4
Added charge-log retention. Clarified that withdrawing consent does not retract already-published grades. All edits are listed in the version history.

What we collect, in full

  • Account details. Your phone number or email so you can sign in, plus the vehicles you add so we can size charging for your battery.
  • Location, with your consent. Your position while the app is open to show nearby chargers, and a brief background signal near a charger to detect whether you arrived. It is geofenced to within about 120 metres of a known charge point.
  • Arrival and charging activity. Whether you reached a charger and whether it worked, the charges you log, and reports you submit. This is the signal that grades reliability.
  • Device and diagnostics. App version, device type and crash or performance data, so we can keep the app fast and stable.

We do not collect payment card numbers. Charging is paid directly to the operator over UPI, so that data never reaches us.

Why we use it

Each purpose is separate and consented to on its own: to show you working chargers and route you to them, to grade reliability from real arrivals, to size and price a charge, to keep your battery record, to send the alerts you turn on, and to secure the service against abuse. We ask for consent per purpose and you can withdraw any of them at any time.

What we never do

  • We never sell your personal data, to anyone, for any purpose.
  • We never keep a trace of where else you drive. Route data is matched on your device and then discarded.
  • We never hold your money. You pay the operator directly.
  • We never show your identity next to a report. Crowd reports are de-identified when read back.

Sharing

We share only what a task needs. To start or settle a charge over the open network, the request and the metered result pass to the charging operator you chose. We use a small set of processors (hosting, notifications, analytics, crash reporting) under contract, and analytics is gated behind your consent with location and identifiers masked. We may disclose data if the law requires it.

This website is separate, and simpler.Pages on voltu.energy are measured by Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. They set no cookies and create no identifier that can follow you to another site. Each page view records the time, the path, the referrer, an approximate location from the request, and your browser and device type. Visitors are counted using a hash of the request, which is discarded after 24 hours, so we cannot reconstruct one person’s visits or tie them to an account. There is no in-app consent prompt for this because there is nothing here that identifies you. Website measurement is processed on Vercel’s infrastructure outside India; everything described elsewhere on this page, which is all of the app data, stays in India.

Retention and residency

All personal data is stored in India. We keep it only as long as the purpose needs: your account data while your account is open, arrival events for 24 months, charge logs until you delete them or transfer the vehicle, and security logs for the period the CERT-In directions require. When a purpose ends, we delete or anonymise the data.

Your rights

You can access the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, and withdraw any consent, all from the app or by writing to us. You can also nominate someone to act for you and raise a grievance with our grievance officer. We respond within the timelines the law sets.

Security

Access is least-privilege and enforced in the database, secrets never ship to your device, and traffic is encrypted in transit. The full model is on our security page.
